Suggest Treatment For Recurrent UTI
I have been having issues with a recurrent UTI that started in October (see previous posts from October). This UTI took a few different meds to get rid of and I still had WBCs for quite a while after it seemed to have gone away. I recently had UTI symptoms and went to the doctor again and they only found WBCs in my urine. I had visited with a urologist before the holidays and he sent me for an ultrasound and xray. I got the ultrasound before the holiday and was finally able to get the xray done yesterday. I am trying to get a follow-up appointment scheduled with the urologist, but in the meantime, I am a bit concerned about my xray. I am (obviously) not a doctor and have no training in reading xrays, but I do notice a white circle in the area where my bladder would be. I tried to share a picture of the xray, although it is not the highest quality...Does this look like something serious? I am going back to my specialist as soon as I can get in, but I am very worried.
I just uploaded the image.
Possibilities in X ray are detailed below
Detailed Answer:
Hi Normacan88,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in details.
The X ray attached shows a small round white opacity in the pelvis to the left of mid line (side marking not provided) but conventionally the left of X ray is to my right.
This is a well defined opacity but borders are not sharp due to image quality. The possibilities we can think of regarding the opacity are
(i) A tubectomy clip in the region if you have undergone tubectomy as a part of family planning.
(ii) A small stone in the left lower ureter might occur in that position.
(iii) A phlebolith which is calcification in the veins can also occur but this usually has a small black dot in the central part of the white round shadow and this is not clearly visible.
The stone is the only concern and if present will show features of obstruction in the kidneys on ultrasound. Your doctors will treat an ureteric stone should it be confirmed.
The tubectomy clip or phlebolith do not require any further interventions.
Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek
Least likely to be tumor related
Detailed Answer:
Hi Normacan88,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
An opacity of that size is least likely to be a tumor related one. It is small, isolated and rounded. This means it is of a benign nature as discussed earlier.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
