Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Acne Vulgaris

Posted on Wed, 31 Dec 2014
Question: Hi, I'm 26 year old girl with serious acne vulgaris as I was told by my skin specialist. I followed the doc's advice and it didn't help me to that extent, the acne keeps on coming back and i've also tried pro active but it didn't help either. I'm using cetaphil cleanser and aziderm 10% cream to treat the acne. I have oily skin and during winter its dry and flaky. Please help me and the red spots are very visible too.

Brief Answer:
Need for oral agents

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I have seen the attached picture.
You surely have moderate to severe acne .
In my patients with a similar presentation ,I usually give an antibiotic anti acne agent to my patients for application in the morning along with another agent at night .
You can continue to use Aziderm at night .
Apply clindamycin gel in the morning over the acne lesions .
Do not apply any other cream or oil over the affected area. Avoid using hair oil as well .
You might need a short course of oral anti acne agents as well ,you can discuss its need with your treating doctor .
Use a medicated sunscreen with spf more than 26 regularly before going out in the sun .Apply it atleast thirty minutes before going out and re apply every three hourly.
This will prevent further darkening of acne scars .
You can also opt for chemical peeling or dermabrasion which will help in treating both active acne lesions as well as acne scars .

Hope it helps
Please ask if you need any further clarifications

hi
I'm sending you my prescription. its from January, after the 2nd visit I didn't go back, she only added aziderm to use for my scars and told me to continue using the creams she prescribed. How much does chemical peeling cost? and i have started using clindamycin gel from today.

Chemical peels

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

There are various types of chemical peels .
A closer assessment of the patients skin is done first to decide the type of peel that will help .
Cost of a single fitting can range from 500 rs and can go upto thousands.
Multiple sittings at two to four weekly interval are mostly required for good results .
