Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Cold And Cough
Around 20 days back my daughter aged 3.5 years old had continuous fever of around 102 degrees(for almost 2 days and did not subside even after giving meftal).
Doctor prescribed medicines and she got normal.
But after week she again got cold and cough.
This time the doctor prescribed medicines: "Levolin", "Ambrolite-S", "Ultituss".
After almost 5 days of usage, cold subsided but cough did not come down.
We consulted ENT doctor this time and he diagnosed it to be related to growth in "Tonsils", "Adenoiditis", with secretion in right ear.
He prescribed below medicines:
1. Refzil dry syrup - 2 Teaspoon for 5 days. (1-0-1)
2 Tixylix Syrup - 5 ml (0-0-1).
Can you let me know if these medicines can be given for 4 year old child and if this will help solve the problem.
Regards.

The medicine can be safely given
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Dear Mr XXXXXXX
From the description given the cause of symptoms as per your Pediatirican is Tonsilitis. Usually there is associated Eustachian tube(tube connecting the middle ear cavity with the throat) blockade leading on to retained secretion in middle ear(Otitis Media).
Refzile dry syrup is Cepahlosporin antibiotic and will be helpful for treatment of middle ear infection. Tixylix syrup will help for cough. Both can be safely given in baby.
Apart from medication i would also suggest following steps
1. Normal Saline Nebulization using Nebuliser
2. Decoction : To a cup of milk + 20 tulsi leaves + 2 black pepper + 2 gm of fresh ginger + 1 spoon of turmeric + 2 spoon of sugar. Bring it to boil. Filter it and feed him warm twice a day
3. Make him sip one spoon of honey with 2 drops of lemon added twice a day
4. Steam inhalation preferably using electronic steamer
5. Normal Saline nasal drops: 2 - 4 drops in each nostril 6 times a day.
Wishing your XXXXXXX speedy recovery
Take Care

Can you please clarify if cough is related to Tonsils growth?
Why is the cough existing for such a long time - almost 20 days on and off?

Clinical examination required
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dear Mr XXXXXXX
If the cause is due to inflammation of Tonsil can only be attributed by clinical examination of throat. It would not be possible to comment based on history alone.
the cause of persistent cough could be due to following
1. Persistent airway hyper reactivity: post infectious there could be persistent hyper reactivity of airways inducing bronchospam and causing cough
2. Dry air: Dry air causes spasm
3. Dust allergy
4. Post nasal drip( Nasal secretion flowing back into throat and inducing cough).
Kindly follow the advise , I am very much sure baby will improve.

Dr Deepak
