Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Nausea, Vomiting And Diiarrhea

Question: My husband, age 74 has been having recurring nausea, vomiting and diarrhea off and on for the last several months. It starts with him noticing a bad taste in his mouth and sometimes an itchy anal rash. Then it proceeds to nausea and vomiting and diarrhea within a few hours. It will last for 12 to 36 hours then he feels fine till the next episode.
Sometimes these episodes are preceded by him having a beer or a small glass of wine that night or the night before. He is an occasional drinker. Glass of beer or less than 6oz of red wine maybe once a week or the time frame may be longer.
The symptoms are more prevalent if we have been to a restaurant to eat.
The cramping seems to start in the middle abdomen and then extends to the lower abdomen.

Brief Answer:
Restrict intake of outside food and alcohol.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through your query. It is possible that your husband is getting recurrent episodes of food poisoning and that could be related to the restaurant food. It is also possible that he has some intolerance to alcohol. Alcohol is metabolized to aldehyde which is a toxic substance and causes various problems. That could be a source of the problems. In any case abstaining from alcohol intake as well as outside food is perhaps a good idea.
Give him ORS (oral rehydration solution) in case he has such an episode again. Also give him curd or yogurt since it contains beneficial bacteria which might help.
