Suggest Treatment For Recurring Pain In The Arms

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Aug 2016
Question: For the last 4 -5 years I occasionally get this pain in my arms; usually in my right (sometimes left) and usually from the elbow down (sometimes entire arm). It feels lik arm is imploding while some one dissects the muscles out; on a pain scale of 1 to 10 it is a 15. Usually it wakes me up from sleep but sometimes it last all day. I have found the only way to stop the pain is to cut the circulation off to the arm buy wrapping it to tight in an ace bandage. I have tried every over the counter nsaid and have even tried hydrocodone and none of them help. Ideas?

Brief Answer:
Can be due to muscle spasm or nerve related disorder.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The occasional intense pain in the arm that you have can be due to a muscle spasm. It can be due to an electrolyte imbalance or a nerve irritation.
You need to consult a neurologist for a proper evaluation. Taking an oral muscle relaxant, hot compress and plenty of electrolyte rich fluid can help.
I hope this answers your query.

I have muscle cramps in my shoulder bc I have pulled the muscles in it numerous times put the pain I am talking about isn't the same is not one concentrated area (like a cramp) that hurts but the entire limb. I also forgot to mention that I have found heat helps but usually cold does more.

Brief Answer:
Muscle related issue likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
If the pain is relieved with hot or cold compress then it is more likely to be a muscle related issue. A nerve pain is less likely. A muscle cramp can cause a pain in the entire limb also. It is best to consult an orthopedician or neurologist for proper examination.
Hope my answer is helpful.
