Suggest Treatment For Recurring Pain In The Hip

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Aug 2016
Question: I am seeing an orthopedic surgeon for recurring hip pain. The pain is on one side and only flares up when I sleep on that side (I assume it is the pressure from the mattress) The pain builds until I wake up and switch sides the pain is a slow growing ache that can hit 6-7 on pain scale. The surgeon has given me an injection in the bursa. that did not work He put me on predizone for a week that did not work. I just had an MRI and the good news the hip is fine no arthritis no fracture. He talked about some kind of band around thigh and hip and has suggested therapy what is my problem

Brief Answer:
Could be Osteoporosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

If you have tight Iliotibial band, then you will experience pain around the outer aspect of the hip and knee and also difficulty in bringing the legs together.

It is possible that your bone quality may be deteriorating due to age. You need to take Calcium and Vitamin D supplements and diet rich in the same. Get good sunlight exposure everyday. Osteoporosis can cause such pain especially if you have preference towards sleeping on a particular side. Do apply hot packs to the painful regions.

Do follow the physiotherapy and note the progress. So fault brisk walking for 45 minutes a day with sunlight exposure during that time.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
