Suggest Treatment For Reddish Patches Around Mouth Cornors

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Sep 2014
Question: Hello, for a few years now I have gotten reddish patches around the corners of mouth that extend out about an inch and then drop down toward my chin. They do not hurt, the do not itch, it just looks irritated and of course I look like a clown as I am pale and the red really stands out. I have been put on antibiotics, used steroid cream/gel and then non-steroid when the realized I was allergic, and now I am taking some estrogen additive as the derm thinks it may be due to a chemical imbalance. Over the years it appears it happens when I eat too much of something with red sauce, if I eat citrus things, if I drink certain alcohols and God forbid I use a tooth paste with whitener. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Acid sensitivity, possible dental health concern

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry. I am glad to be of assistance. I think you are on the right track with trying to determine certain foods and products that irritate you. Allergic reactions and acid sensitivity are quite common and you need to learn to avoid these foods or products. You may have an autoimmune component to your sensitivity.
Your saliva may be acidic and irritate the corners of your mouth. Discuss this with your dentist. Evaluate your oral health for any infections. Realize viruses, bacteria, fungus, yeast and other infections can be carried via saliva. Strep is common to spread to the face and cause irritation. This is common with young children and putting fingers in the mouth when sick.
Evaluate your bite to make sure you have proper support. Snoring, grinding your teeth and mouth breathing can lead to salvia irritation at mouth corners.
These are a few suggestions for you to think about since you have ruled out and have looked into typical sources that would be related to your symptoms.
I am glad to answer additional questions and assist you further.
