Suggest Treatment For Redness And Itching On The Scrotum

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Mar 2017
Question: for the last four weeks the skin of my scrotum has become very irritated, red, sore and itchy. I shower daily and haven't changed soap. I thought it could be eczema though I've never had issues with this in the past.

Brief Answer:
may be a fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that there may be a fungal infection present. Fungal infection tends to occur in these areas because of heat and friction.

The itching can occur because of the infection and also as a of the area being inflamed.

Treatment would involve the use of a topical anti fungal with a few days of a topical steroid to reduce the inflammation.

Both of these should be over the counter.

Hydrocortisone cream (steroid cream) can be used twice a day for 3 to 4 days.

Examples of antifungal creams are ketoconazole, miconazole, clotrimazole or econazole

One of these can be obtained from your pharmacy and used twice daily.

It can sometimes take a fungal infection 2 to 3 weeks to respond to anti fungal medication so it has to be used persistently
