Question: What causes shaking after long car rides? I don't feel it until I'm in my home. If feels like the house is shaking while standing and setting in my recliner. Absolutely worse at night. I'm in Kansas, so it's not an earthquake. It takes several hours to reduce the shaking so that I can sleep. Dr gave me medication for restless leg syndrome but my symptoms are not like most people who have that.

Brief Answer:
The body is "remembering" or having a memory the shake after it is gone.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I think that when you take long rides, the rides essentially have a shaky or bumpy nature. Your body grows adjusted to it and automatically ignores the shake. But after you reach home and the shake is gone, your body possibly still ignoring (similar to digital reduction) the shake. But since the shake is no longer there, this rather "creates" a negative shake or the sense of shakiness. It seems that your body is taking a significant time to "realize" that the shake is no longer there and that it does not need to keep adjusting.

I would insist you to get a neurological evaluation done. In any case this is not restless leg syndrome and medicating for the same would be meaningless (unless you have that additionally).

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
