Suggest Treatment For Restless Legs Syndrome And Hallucinations
I do have restless legs syndrome. I have severe osteo-arthritus, especially in the knees.
I recently had the second of two hernia operations.
I am mentally clear in the day time but, at night, see people in my house and, in the morning, find object misplaced (e.g. the telephone and modem removed from the wall)
Doctors are hard to get during this Christmass period and I am wondering what are the possible causes of my hallucinations and whether I can take any action to block them?
Please see a doctor whenever you get an appointment
Detailed Answer:
Hi thanks for asking from HCM
I can understand your concern. Seeing people or objects when they are not there occurs in visual hallucinations but should be evaluated properly. You have awareness that these are not real and are in your mind. So this could be occurring due to severe anxiety. If there is no history of anxiety then we can label these as hallucinations.
Hallucinations especially visual type can never be ignored. Visual hallucinations occur commonly in any organic condition. If you have access to a lab then get your blood sugar levels, serum electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium and Calcium) done. This will rule out any biochemical cause. An imaging of brain will rule out brain condition. Please contact a psychiatrist if possible. If you have just started taking any medicines then stop those medicines. This could be due to adverse effects of any medicine that affect cholinergic system.
You are yourself asking the query and this means there is no confusion. This is a good thing which is against organic pathology or delirium. Avoid smoking, alcohol till you see a doctor. Please take the next appointment and get yourself evaluated.
Thanks Take care
Merry Christmas
