What Are The Symptoms Of Low Progesterone?

I went through menopause about 7-8 years ago. Shorty after I started having to take thyroid medication, and started having problems with restless legs, which has gotten much worse. I also have serious sleep problems and despite walking regularly I continue to gain weight around my middle. My cholesterol is high, and I continue to have serious hot flashes. I ve been reading about hormone replacement therapy and it sounds like I have about every symptom of progesterone deficiency. Is it too late to try it?

Hi,

What is your age now?

When was the last time you had a breast and gynecological checkup?

It's important to do both these tests before we start hormone replacement therapy. More than progesterone, estrogen deficiency cause symptoms in women. Progesterone is not so important outside the childbearing age.

If you have an intact uterus, we have to start both estrogen and progesterone. To answer your question, most doctors prefer to give hormone replacement until around 50 to 55 years age if no contraindications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Binu Parameswaran Pillai,
