default
Posted on Tue, 22 Aug 2017
Question: Hello I run a 5K each Friday. I am 50 yrs old. My right Achilles' tendon feels like it is tearing away from my heal right at the point of attachment. I have tried and do stretch before and after each run but it is consistently bothersome. Also my knee joints and ankle joints are also a problem on both legs. I take glucosamine and condroitan but it helps only a little.

Brief Answer:
Pain killers ,static quadriceps aexercises and ankle wrap to be tried.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
The heel pain , you are referring to is called retrocalcaneal bursitis .Pain increases on activity in this condition. You also have pain in knee and ankles.
I suggest that you start pain killers, and static Quadriceps exercises( will be taught by a physiotherapist). Get X rays of both knee and ankles .Continue Glucosamine and Chondroitin.
For heel pain , apart from pain killers , do a hot fomentation , and apply local analgesic cream. Use a ankle wrap while running.
If no relief ,then you may need local injections of PRP in knee and heel.
Thanx for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
