Brief Answer:
You might need oral medications

Detailed Answer:
Hi, apologies for the late reply.

It seems the infection has spread since you have history of fever. If possible please upload latest picture of the affected area.
I will urge you to consult the doctor. You may require a course of oral medications along with anti-inflammatory drugs. Until then, we might use over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs (such as motrin) twice daily – if you have no history of drug allergy (towards ibuprofen). Keep the area clean and dry.

Wish you a speedy recovery.

Regards

Thank you Dr. Satvinder, for being genuinely concerned. I revisited doc who examined lip for abscess stating area wasn't infected (Yes!) however must keep a lil dry so scab will fall off & stop using Mupirocin, since staph (honey ooze) isn't present. Refused to presc antibiotics but presc tube of oint at $600 (too expensive), so said to use Abreva for 7days. Using Advil. No fevers or chills. Feels lil swollen this morning but no pain. Drying up well, wish I used initially instead of Orajel single dose that didn't work. Your opinion is suggested. Thank You immensely.

Brief Answer:
Continue Advil and ointment, watch for fevers

Detailed Answer:
Sorry for the late reply.

You can continue using the ointment prescribed, if your doctor isn't happy with mupirocin Ointment and Advil for now. Hot water fomentation will help clear up the abscess quickly. If you notice a persistent fever, then you will need to start on Oral Antibiotics by prescription from your local doctor.

Thanks!
