Suggest Treatment For Sepsis In Right Leg

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: I have developed pitting edema in both legs. thought it was under control using the unna boot but they have started blistering again. I did have sepsis in the right leg and may still have it as the leg has never healed all the way . I have been prescribed every anti biotic in the book andTh developed thrush mouth. It looks like Im in for another round of anti biotics for me. It is no longer in the lower leg but is traveling higher now. I have been to Doctors, clinics and the hospital to no avail. What can I do to try and speed up the healing. Some articles say use compression and some say don't . I am at a loss as to what to do. Also in a lot of pain. The pitting started after a hospital stay in December. I went admitted for exascerbated COPD .

To find the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and understood the history.

You may please attach the photographs and any positive reports with this query as
YYYY@YYYY
May I please know only a few points:
-Are the toes of the feet involved in edema or spared (normal in size)?
-Recent reports of Serum proteins (total, albumin, globulin)?
-Recent Hemoglobin?
-Ultrasonography and venous color doppler of both the lower limbs, inguinal region and abdomen?
-Any associated other medical problems like Diabetes, hypertension and so on?

All these questions have inbuilt answers. We have to find the cause, once diagnosed treatment is the easiest.
The causes can be group into:
1. Venous compression like due to varicose veins (toes will be involved and fully edematous)
2. Lymphatic blokage due to lymphangitis, blockage at inguinal or upper abdominal lymph nodes.
3. General causes like Anemia, low proteins, any medical disorders like Hypothyroidism,

Proper Clinical evaluation and examination by your Doctor can lead to the diagnosis to see for the proper reasons, correct it and get a relief.

Please give the feedback so that we can continue the discussion to find the cause and get a proper treatment.

Till then follow the general principles
- The legs should be elevated in such a way that the heel point is 8 inches above the heart level.
- Take Iron, Multivitamins with Ginseng, therapeutic doses of Vitamin A and D.
- Ambulation, keep walking - improves circulation helps the venous returned
- Low salt or no salt.
- Protein supplements
- Application of the Liquid Povidone iodine to the whole limbs if there is evidence of infection or blister formation / breach in skin of whatsoever nature.

I have been trying my best to find out the cause, please give feedback, ask for relevant queries if you need to or if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
