Suggest Treatment For Sever Fatigue And Drowsiness While On Depakote
Question: I have been prescribed 1000 mg of depakote per day as reult of suspected seizure in November of last year.. This seems like a high dosage (normal dosages about 300 mg/day) considering that the only actual seizure observed was leg twitching in the ER when admitted last November and I have no memory of any other seizure.
I am extremely fatigued and drowsy. I am also taking exelon, toprol. cardizem, zoloft. I can hardly stay out of bed during the day. I have been taking depakote since November and am getting more tired every day.

The usual starting dosage for depakote is 10 to 15 mg/kg/day orally. This means we need to know your weight before being able to comment further on this. The highest acceptable dosage if this fails to resolve your problem is 60mg/Kg/day.
If this was a one time observation, I will suggest that you talk to your doctor to make sure for real you have epilepsy or a seizure before continuing this drug. It might make sense for him to discontinue and see how you react to this. If the seizures return, then that is a clear prove to continue the drug.
