Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Cramps And Diarrhea

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jan 2017
Question: This is the third morning I have had horrible cramps and explosive diarrhea. Saturday morning ate out. Chili replenishment, white beans, Pico re Gallo, fried egg. Didn't eat it all. Sunday morning started diarrhea. No vomiting. Had Imodium which I realized were expired 2011. Neighbor got current Imodium yesterday. Have taken 2, one a few hours later. I'm the only person who got sick, nobody tasted my meal. Food poisoning? No appetite, trying to keep hydrated.
Help!

It was a Chile relleno

Brief Answer:
could definitely be food poisoning

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is most likely food poisoning, as you mentioned, which would imply either that a bacterial or viral infection was passed to you.
This can occur by using food that may not have been appropriately prepared and a source of infection or by coming into contact with someone else with diarrhea and/or vomiting.

Treatment is essentially the same:(1) holding off solid food till there is a 4 hour window with no symptoms

When this time period occurs, you can start with a small amount of dry foods- biscuits, toast, plain rice, essentially the BRAT diet

(2)continue the imodium, can add probiotics to this to help restore normal bacterial to the colon

(3)continue with hydration plan- use fluids that you also help to give back electrolytes along with fluids eg gatorade or oral rehydration drinks

In most cases symptoms last less than 7 days, majority are resolved by day 5.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
