Question: My doctor prescribed Chlorystymine and I had C diff. I have no gall bladder. I developedbelly pain, so I stopped. This week I had acute gastrointestinal virus, and I called him. He said that it got worse because of the problem of non absorption of bile. I took it tonight and followed instructions carefully and now, I have cramps and some diarrhea. I took it at 7:30. It is w 11:15, 'and it is still there. Will it calm down or can I take something? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
ORS and antispasmodics are to be taken.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I infer that the complaints you had were of abdominal cramps and diarrhea. This could be due to bacterial or viral cause and irrespective of treatment it usually takes 3-5 days to resolve. The antispasmodic Decolic (dicycloverine) tablet [prescription medicine] can be taken when needed to relieve the cramps. However, even if you do not take something it will settle on its own soon.

I would insist you to take ORS (oral rehydration solution) to make up for the fluid and salts lost due to the diarrhea. This is very important in order to prevent dehydration.

I am not certain why your doctor had prescribed Cholestyramine (a bile acid sequestrant). You need to ask him directly and point to the fact that your gall baldder is not present.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
