Question: Went to the ER last night after experiencing severe pain in my left abdomen (enought to double me over and drive me to my knees. Pain was located between ribs and belly button. Blood evident in urine. Blood test, CT scan revealed no kidney stones or no infection in bladder. Temp normal, heart rate and BP elevated (pain). ER physician stated could be passing a kidney stone, or swollen ribs or spine pressing on internal organs. or something more serious. What should I watch for, what else could be the problem? Seeking another opinion.

Brief Answer:
Could be mostly due to what is called as Clot Colic.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .
Based on the facts that you have posted, the pain in left side of abdomen with presence of blood in urine (Hematuria ) strongly suggests the pain could be due to what is called as Clot Colic .

This usually happens when a small spiky stone passes down through the ureter and injures the delicate mucus membrane of ureter giving rise to bleeding forming a clot in ureter. This clots gives severe pain in abdomen .

In view of absence of any positive findings in CT Scan there is nothing to be worried about .

Take antibiotic like Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily for 5 days (please get the necessary prescription from your local physician)..

Ensure to drink more water to keep your urine diluted .

Please do write if you have more questions . I shall be happy to help you .

Thanks and Regards.
