Suggest Treatment For Severe Acid Reflux

Question: Hi - I am trying to work out why I often get acid reflux in the mornings when I first get up and I haven't even eaten anything. What would cause this? Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist.

Actually acid production is maximum during morning hours as parietal cells are most active in the morning. And if one is having some predisposing factor like lax lower oesophageal sphincter, hiatus hernia etc for reflux then reflux of acid will be more.

Since you dont l;ike medicines I will give you advise which I found very useful in my patients:
1.Don't bend or exercise immediately after eating
2.Do not lie down with 2-3hrs after taking meals
3. Don't drink water along with meals till 2-3 hrs
4. Reduce stress by doing regular exercise, meditation and yoga
5. Avoid tight-fitting belts or clothes that fit tightly around the waist
6. Reduce weight if overweight
7. Eat small meals at a time
8. Quit smoke and avoid alcohol if you take
9. Aoid spicy and fatty meals
10. Avoid tea and coffee
