Question: Hi I was dealing with a male is his status is unknown. We never used protection I'm a female.. From August 2016 until the week of the 17th in October of 2016. I became very depressed because I thought I had got hiv. My tongue begin to get a lite white coating, so I started googling myself crazy about symptoms related to hiv.. In November I became very depressed I couldn't eat anything and very hard for me to sleep.. Worrying myself constantly about what I had done. December 5, and 15 I decided to get tested for hiv luckily everything came back negative for hiv.. between that time I did go to er about tongue doctor assured me that I just needed to drink water it seem to him that I just was dehydrated. I was very relieved about that.. Fast forward to This Year January 4, 2017 I decided to get tested again and that tests was also the Alere duo test and that test was also negative but, I still have a lite coating on my tongue, I have a lot of gas. Rather I eat or not. I had very bad aches in my bones near vagina bone (purtis) it comes and goes. One day this month my back had so much pain around my left shoulder blade. I had one lymph node this month under chin but it went away. My stomach makes gurgling noises when I'm relaxing after eating or before. My hand and feet sweat and I'm not nervous. I have acne on face that leaves black spots. Never had this issue. Muscle keep twitching all over.. All of this has started to happen this month.. Could it be that since I was still being tested within the window period some how I can have the virus and it didn't show? Now I know I'm past the 90 days since I haven't put myself at risk since October without protection. Will my results change once I get tested for this 4th time with the Alere duo test. I've seen my general doctor and she says she wants me to wait until April which will make that the 6 month mark. But I know with the duo test that isn't necessary since result are conclusive at 90 days

Hello,

The recommendation is to check after 3 months. The 6 month check is really for people who have compromised immune systems such as from having been on chemotherapy. As a result of that, they don't mount an antibody response in the normal amount of time. But 3 months is the standard for rechecking.

I also would ask your partner to go in with you to be checked - if you are still with him. Because even if you are negative, it's important, if you continue to have relations with him, to have him checked too.

It's not possible to diagnose based on the symptoms you are having, but if you have fevers and chronic diarrhea, or flu like symptoms - those are more typical signs than what you described above.

I hope this information helps.

No doctor I haven't had any chronic symptoms as the ones you listed above, just for a peace of mind I'm going to get myself tested once more. That way I know in April it will ok for me to get tested again with my own doctor.. versus the rapid test. Thank you for responding doctor

Hi again doctor! I received a call from my doctor because I had lab work done. Unfortunately I missed her call and now I have to wait until tomorrow because she's not in today. She left a messages telling me it's nothing urgent but she wants me to give her a call back, she also stated wanted to see how I'm feeling. I'm nervous now because I don't know what to expect. And tomorrow seems so far. I had a appointment to meet with her on 2/8/17 but when I called today the receptionist told me I can call tomorrow to see if I can have my lab results. I never had a doctor call my phone it's always the receptionist. I'm on edge what does this mean??

She told me my blood count, cholesterol, gluscose.. she didn't test for hiv yet she said she wanted to do that in April. Very anxious. Being I'm 28 years old and never received a call from my doctor. She sounds calm on my voice mail but I'm worrying. Is my white cells abnormal or do I have a infection and it's showing up in my blood I'm worrying if I had thyroid disease she told me she was running test to make sure that I was ok

Detailed Answer:
Sometimes doctors call if they want to run further tests because of some abnormality on the first test that is vague. And they call themselves rather than asking the nurse to call because sometimes it's just a lot easier to pick up the phone oneself than to explain it to the nurse. It doesn't mean that there is anything grave or life threateningly serious. I've often just called people myself if there was something in question. For example, women of child bearing age can have anemia on a blood count due to menstrual blood losses, and so I might call to tell them to come back in for iron-studies to see if they have iron deficiency. Things like that. So it's best to just wait and not think too much about it right now. If it was truly grave and urgent, you'd probably get a second call.
