Question: My 17 year old daughter was prescribed Adderall for ADD. She stopped taking it and her grades went way down. When we went back to the doctor (we had to go to a new one because our former one had moved away) they said she had to take a urine drug test to get a new prescription. She did and her test came back with; amphetamine, caffeine, tramadol, chlorcyclizine, and cannabinoids. She had told me she had smoked pot at a recent school dance and it might show up. After she failed the test she said she had recently found some of her old Adderall that we had taken on a trip and had taken one that day and one of her friends gave her something for anxiety because she was stressed about a boy who had been stalking her. (The boy thing was indeed true). Since she failed the drug test she could not get a new prescription. When I asked the doctor how long before she could take another drug test and when it came out clean how long before she could get her Adderall again. He said she can NEVER get Adderall or any controlled substance again because if it comes up positive like this they automatically assume the person is buying and selling these drugs on the street illegally. Now my daughter is flunking out of school and may not graduate with her class in May of 2017. This could affect her whole future. I know using someone else's prescription drugs is serious (and I have re-emphasized this to my daughter) but this seemed extreme to me. My daughter is a good kid, who made a mistake but she is not a drug dealer. Is this really the law and if it is do I have any recourse since she was prescribed Adderall for her ADD. Thank you.
