Question: i take morphine 60mg. twice daily. now my doctor wants to cut me back to 90mg. once per day. i"m in pain daily. my back, hips, knees, feet and shoulder. is that wise?: I was on 200mg per day and they cut me back to a 120mg. per day and i'm still in pain. i have been taking this medicine for 2yrs and have became immune to the dosage. i've asked for something stronger or something else that will help. what should i do or what to say to my doctor?

Brief Answer:
Tell him you are in severe pains and don’t understand the rationale!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Be honest with your doctor and let him know you are in severe pains and the drugs seem insufficient. You would have rather expected an increase and not a decrease in the dosage. Ask whether he has an alternative to propose as you are still in severe pains? Do not insist on morphine as it is a substance of abuse but rather state that you are in severe pain and would like to have adequate management whether that be with morphine or with any other drug.

Try to stay calm and do not come across as requesting for more pain drugs but rather focus on your pain and passively push him to get to where you want.

I wish you well and keep me posted on how the discussion goes.
