Question: My wife has back pain. She says back just seized up. SHe is in bed but can't sit up. Taken ibupropen

Will a muscle relaxer help. She can't get up to go visit a doctor...

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Ibuprofen is a good choice to alleviate the pain at dosages of 800-1200 mg a day (though it can go higher).

A muscle relaxer should help as well. Most common one is Cyclobenzaprine (brand name Flexeril). Tizanidine is another alternative.

Among other means hot or cold compresses are also employed. In the first couple of days cold compresses are used, afterwards hot ones.
