Suggest Treatment For Severe Chest Pain And Heartburn In An Elderly Person
GERD or Reflux oesophagitis!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Firstly thanks for choosing health care magic for your query!
Your symptoms are most likely because of a condition called gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic digestive disease. GERD occurs when stomach acid or, occasionally, stomach content, flows back into your food pipe (esophagus). The reflux irritates the lining of your esophagus and causes GERD.Gerd causes burning sensation often termed as retrosternal fullness or heart burn by many patients.,A sensation of something struck in your throat is also because of reflux of contents from stomach back into oesophagus. Medically its termed as reflux oesophagitis. The major symptoms are heartburn (burning feeling rising up the back of the breastbone), regurgitation of acid and food into the mouth with a sour taste.
I would suggest you to go for Upper G.I endoscopy, To rule out GERD and other conditions like gastritis associated with it.
However to rule out cardiac involvement a 2d echo is suggested.
Advice
Cap pantoprazole 40mg once empty stomach
Follow up with reports of Upper G.I endoscopy and 2d echo reports.
In case you have any other query i would be happy to help!
Thanks!
My dr said the same as you. And did an ekg and an Rx for omeprazole. What is pantoprazole? What can I take besides bicarbonate to help with burning before this ppi kicks in? I will have egd this Monday. I'm scared its esophagus cancer. Also could it be heart related as you both are suggesting heart tests. Thanks. Gloriann.
Both are PPI's!
Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
Pantoprazole and Omeprazole are both PPI's you can take any one of them,Upper g.i endoscopy will make it clear whether its GERD or Esophageal carcinoma or Achalasia .
Symtoms of cardiology often overlaps with gastrology, hence tests are done to find out whether its cardiac or gastric.Ecg is the baseline test ,its better to go for 2d echo, which is far superior to ecg.
You can take cold milk, curd,Avoid oily food,Spices should not be used .
Advice
Don't worry and follow up with reports!
Wish you a great luck and happy recovery.
