Suggest Treatment For Severe Cold And Cough

Question: I have had a bad cold with cough, no fever, strep was r/o on Sunday. Two days ago I lost my sense of smell and taste. I am 66y0 and haven't even had a cold in 20 yrs. I do have a bit of stuffiness but have always been able to breathe thru my nose during this episode. Am drinking fluids (plenty) but have no appetite. Did use some Advil for body aches a couple of days ago. I don't usually take any OTC meds but I was really desperate having HA constantly for 2 days. The only med I am on is Synthroid 112mcg daily. I used some zinc tabs at the beginning also. Is there anything else I can do. I'm really concerned about losing smell and taste permanently
Brief Answer:
Sinus infection
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
I am sorry to hear that you have nasal congestion and loss of smell and taste. this sounds like you may have a sinus infection more than likely bacterial infection. I would recommend that you return to your medical provider and provide him with your symptoms and concerns. I think you need to be on antibiotics. If this has truly affected your nerves dealing with taste an smell you need quick intervention to lower your risk of permanent loss of smell and taste.
