Question: Hello doctor,my 4 year old son(14kg) had severe cough, cold and temp(around 100,101). Took him to doc on sat morning and doc prescribed clampkid forte -3.5ml for 4 days, 2 times a day. By mistake, i gave it for 3 times a day last 3 days! And today is 4th day, i gave morning dose already, shall i stop it now? Please suggest. Would there be any side effects of overdosage? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections and antibiotics are ineffective in such cases. Antibiotics would not help and irrespective of treatment it usually spontaneously resolves in 5-7 days. But since you have started the antibiotics (Clamp Kid) you must complete the course. It would be ok to stop now. It would not count as an overdose and it would not matter.

In case of cough you need to give steam inhalation to your child. It helps in reducing the congestion. Just sit with your child on your lap and place the source of steam before you. The water vapor will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief.

If he has cough or nasal discharge give him some antiallergic like cetirizine once daily for next few days.

Hopefully that would help. Feel free to write back in case of further queries.
