Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough With Soreness In The Chest
I had the flu about three-four weeks ago and have had a cough ever since. I got over the flu in a few days but I can't shake the cough. It comes in waves of uncontrollable bursts. My whole chest cavity is also very sore and has been so for about a week. I don't know whether its sore due to the coughing or if its something else. I tried running today and had to slow down to a walk due to the pain in my ribs/chest cavity. Any ideas?

Hello
Thank you for asking in HealthcareMagic.
Usually viral situations cause a cough that may last till one month which gets better with time. According to the history, it might be better for you to do some blood test as:
Hemogram
CRP
Chest X Ray
If the results comes negative, the inflammatory problems of the lungs are excluded. Sometimes the stomach refluxes can cause pain too , you can try some antacid like Prilosec 20mg once daily before breakfast for the time being, it'll help to relieve it.
Allergic problems may be activated during flu seasons and in this situations the cough may last longer. For this you can try some inhaler medications (eg. Salbutamol) twice per day (please get the prescription from your local doctor).
So i hope to have been helpful for you.
Feel free to ask me again.
I wish you a fast recovery.
