I am a smoker. I have tried a syrup called some BozeDx.
Sincerely
Robitussin with codeine, or other cough medicines with codeine.
Detailed Answer:
I am sorry to hear about your continued cough.
The first thing to consider is what is causing the cough. If you also have fever and chills, I'd advise a chest X-ray to make sure you don't have pneumonia. Also if you find that you are short of breath on a regular basis.
If you are coughing from post nasal drainage going down and causing and irritated cough, then a nasal corticosteroid such as Flonase (fluticasone) may help - but it would take a few days to kick in.
Sometimes viruses can cause a cough that can continue after you are over the main cold virus symptoms. For this, a cough medicine with codeine can be very helpful. Opiates such as codeine have a strong cough suppressant effect. Examples of cough suppressants with codeine are Robitussin AC, Cheratussin AC, (the AC means "with codeine"), Guaifenesin with codeine.
The cough is much more likely to continue from being a smoker. I know it is extremely difficult to do, but I strongly advise trying to quit. Your having a cough right now may help you to quit so this may be a good time to try. And if you are having a hard time quitting, there are newer medical treatments available to assist with quitting, such as Zyban (helps with decreasing the urge to smoke), and nicotine receptor medications, as well as nicotine patches (to help with withdrawal symptoms if you smoke 2 or more packs per day).
I hope this information helps and that you are feeling better soon! Best regards.

can I try Robitussin AC or Cheratussin AC for a while and see if that can help? I am not sure if I can give a try to quit smoking at present. Please suggest. I don't have fever and chills. Also I don't understand coughing from post nasal drainage. What I know is it starts with deep in throat and continues till don't end up having some irritable coming out almost in the mouth. Hope I am able to elaborate. Please advise. Thanks in advance
Yes, start with the cough suppressant.
Detailed Answer:
The post nasal drainage is where, for example you have a cold or sinus infection, and drainage goes down the back of your throat and triggers a cough reflex when it gets to the bronchi of the lungs. Sometimes you can't feel the drainage, but if you clear the throat and there is mucus, or the feeling of a tickle going down, that may be what is keeping the cough going.
Yes, try the cough medicine with codeine. You will need to get it by prescription - at least that's how it works in the US - because codeine is a controlled substance.
If you are not in a situation where you can give quitting smoking a good try right now, that is understandable, but do keep it on your "to do" list for the future. It will help your immune system and your respiratory system to prevent or recover quickly from infections and things like you are suffering from now.
