Question: My mother was put in hospital last week for what I thought was her diabetes ast was very low. She also has heart disease, stage 3 kidney disease. Recovering from two broken legs and chariots disease in her feet. Second day she was in there she had an ultrasound on her stomach as it was hard. They found fluid and drained it out. She was on fluid tablets. My sister told she asked for her regular pain medication, instead of giving it to her they put her on morphine through a pump and went just about unconscious. When we approached the doctor as we suspect something not right going on to do with her pain meds she said she would talk to us then just disappered. Which brought up more suspicion. Then the next day till that they did an ultrasound on her heart. They said the function had dropped to 15%, and that she was terminal. She so heavily sedated when she is conscious she can barely communicate with us. Mum has always been a fighter, I feel she is trying to tell me something not right is going on. What do I do?

Brief Answer:
My heart goes out to you, but I have to tell you that she is very bad.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, welcome to health care magic,
Your mother has severe Diabetes, Charcot's disease due to it, stage 3 kidney disease, and her heart is in very bad shape. Fluid in stomach means she is bad.
My heart goes out to you, but I have to tell you that she is very bad.
The doctors obviously feel that they have to give her as much comfort as they can since they cannot do much. Even by a miracle if she recovers a little, it will not be for long.
That is why they have given morphine for her pain. It is better to keep her heavily sedated so that she has minimal discomfort as long as she is living.
I know she is a fighter, but at present it may be a good idea to let her go rather than suffer prolonged agony.
Regards
