Suggest Treatment For Severe Diarrhea And Acid Reflux

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Mar 2017
Question: Hello. Last night I had terrible diarrhea. I got up at least 9 times to go to the bathroom. We ate out and my husband was having acid reflux so we were thinking it was something we ate. I have continued to have cramps like I need to go to the bathroom but all that is coming out now is blood. My lower abdomen is bloated and I have a bit of pressure. Other than that, I feel fine. I have no fever. At first I was thinking hemorrhoid were causing the bleeding but I shouldn't have the diarrhea symptoms if that were the case. The blood is bright red. Should I give it time or go to the emergency room? Thanks for your help. I was wondering if this was actually submitted the website says that a response is given within minutes. It has been over an hour and I have heard nothing.

Brief Answer:
you'd better visit the ER

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

your description does sound like bleeding from internal hemorrhoids because the blood is bright red and there is no anal pain (fissure, external hemorrhoids, rectal inflammation). Other potential causes include a gastroenteritis (some of them may cause intestinal bleeding), irritated diverticula (individuals over 60 years of age commonly have diverticula particularly if they have constipation), tumors, etc.

Loosing blood nine times in a single day is too much unless there were drops of blood only, therefore I believe it's better to visit the ER for appropriate testing and clarification of the cause. A complete blood count, C-reactive protein levels and urea, creatinine levels will be very helpful to assess your condition.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
Kind Regards!
