Question: I started feeling dizzy this morning. It feels like a spinning off balance kind of dizziness. I have a slight headache but no other symptoms. The dizziness came on very suddenly. I was lying in bed when i felt a spinning sensation. It gets a little better then it starts again. It comes in waves. Thats the best way i can describe it. My ears dont hurt but i have a pressure feeling in my head. What could cause this?

Brief Answer:
Inner ear issue like BPPV more likely.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Judging from your description, that is the symptom otherwise called as vertigo, defined as a sensation of spinning movement.

In terms of possible causes the most common cause by far is inner ear issues. Benign positional paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV) is the most common one, due to movement of detached free chrystals in the inner ear labirynths which are very much involved in balance. Other possible ear related causes would be an infection or Meniere's, but less likely. In terms of treatment most commonly used one is meclizine.

The other cause to be considered would be that of stroke involving the areas of the brain involvedin balance. However that usually has other symptoms like speech or visual issues, weakness or numbness of the face or limbs etc. Headache may also be a symptom but usually more intense than you describe it. So it is unlikely. However if symptoms do not improve (or if developing one of those symptoms) then you should be evaluated for the possibility of other neurological signs you might have missed.
