Suggest Treatment For Severe Gastritis While On Gaviscon

Posted on Mon, 2 Jan 2017
Question: Yes, hi. I have gastritis and had a flare due to too much chocolate over the weekend (I didn't know chocolate was a no-go food). I took Gaviscon to fight the acid reflux/heartburn and have suffered from diarrhea and smelly urine since. Are these two things linked to the Gaviscon?

Brief Answer:
yes, it can cause these effects to occur

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Diarrhea is noted to be a possible side effect of gaviscon and it has also been described as causing abnormal smelly urine.

This means that it could definitely be the cause of your symptoms.

As you said, chocolate is a no food with gastritis or reflux. Other problem foods would be mint, caffeine, onions, tomatoes, citrus fruits/juices, spicy and in some people, fried foods.

I hope this helps , feel free to ask any other questions
