Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just got up from resting and am experiencing sudden onset of right breat pain (around nipple area). This was not present earlier, just suddenly. I m also having heartburn (I ve previously been diagnosed with GERD). One week ago I had a sigmoid colectomy. Could pain medication (Hydromorphone 2 mg) cause these conditions? Breast pain seems to be subsiding a bit now.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Hydromorphone is a narcotic pain medication that is used to relieve severe pain. While breast pain is not a known side effect of hydromorphone, the medication may be causing the pain as a side effect. However, it is important to note that the sudden onset of breast pain can also be caused by other factors such as hormonal changes, injury, or infection.
If you have had a sigmoid colectomy, it is also possible that the pain in your breast is due to surgical trauma. Heartburn is a common side effect of hydromorphone and can also be related to GERD.
It is recommended that you contact your healthcare provider to report these symptoms and discuss whether further evaluation is needed. They may suggest adjusting your medication or performing additional tests to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
