Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Pelvic Area Post Injury

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Feb 2016
Question: Hello, I took a hard fall while skiing and pulled a groin muscle ( one of the adductor muscles I think) and have not been able to support my weight on that leg. This happened two days ago, and now my pain is located in the pelvic area. (I feel it most when I sit upright). Could I have injured the ligaments in that area? What should I do to help heal? I have been icing the upper inside leg muscles since the accident. I have been using crutches to get around, but have mostly been resting for the past 48 hrs. I noticed this morning that I can somewhat support my weight on the injured leg if I turn my foot inward while standing. I can raise my leg forward about 12 inches off the floor and return it, also lift laterally and return, and backwards and return, even lift my knee upward and return, all of this with a little pain, but not too bad. Thanks for your help!

Brief Answer:
need rest...and see orthopedic surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Welcome at HCM...
I am Dr Saad Sultan and will be answering your query. I am feeling very sorry on accident you met with.
Based upon the description you made , it is mandatory for you to meet orthopedic surgeon, so that you can be properly managed.
If I am your attending physician I will get your x rays of both hip joints. Apart from it MRI of the affected area will clearly tell us about the status of muscle injury if happened .
The best for you right now is to take complete bed rest. Quit physiotherapy too. Ligament tear usually requires surgery. Sprain may take variable time to heal like up to month.
As you are 59 yes old, so your bone mass is quite less , and such injuries may cause hairline fractures , that's why seeing orthopedic surgeon is appropriate.
.stay calm , take rest and use acetaminophen to relieve pain. You can add tramadol to it for pain.
Hope it help

Hello Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
I wrote to you yesterday about an injury I had after a skiing accident. I took your advice and had an x-ray taken of my injured hip/pelvic area. It showed that I have a fractured pelvis. It is more like a hairline fracture and should heal on its own in time. I have a follow-up appt. with an orthopedic doctor and will see him next week. In the meantime I am resting and taking Motrin for pain. Thank you so much for your advice!
Regards,
Ann
