Posted on Sat, 22 Oct 2016
Question: I am currently experiencing pain in my left chest area. It is a dull pain, but when I lay down it starts burning like nerve pain does. I am currently on a host of pain medication for various reasons and need to know if I should be concerned that the medication is not enough to prevent the pain. It is persistent, and has lasted for about 8 hours now. I do have copd and am on oxygen 24/7 at 3 liters. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Supportive care

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Chest pain with history fo COPD, pain killer meds, aspirin and gastric discomfort with maalox intake, is either a gastric acid reflux or COPD related pleuritic pain. Mor elikely it s a chest pain due to acid reflux as you mentioned laying down worsens it.

It needs some nexium, pepto , gastric motility enhancers, diet and lifestyle adjustment. Eat small frequent meals, reduce fatty , dairy, spicy, processed, canned foods. Avoid alcohol, beer, soda, beverages, coffee, tea, chocolate etc. Use more fiber and fluids. Delay lying down after meal for three hours. Keep head side of bed elevated by 8 inches at aleast. If the issue persists talk to your doctor for further mnagement.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.
