Hi,
Generally gall stones, gastritis, pleuritis are common. Does the pain increase while lying down or taking deep breaths? Is the pain there during rest? What is height and weight? DOes the pain has relation with food? Does he have any other symptoms like jaundice, fever, loss of appetite, nausea etc?
You talking about an area where important organs like liver, lower lung and gall bladder are present. If it is very painful you should get it examined by local doctor and may be an Ultrasound of the abdomen.
If the pain is severe even at rest it is better be addressed by local doctor quickly or at the ER.
