Brief Answer:
Investigation/ expert advise needful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query under Healthcare magic.I have read & understood your concern.
The shoulder pain your husband had can be due to-
1. The problem with shoulder itself- from muscles( over stretching or severe stress )/ tendons or ligaments situated in underarm / bony spur/ bursitis near underarm can cause nerve pressure to the nerve that passes through underarm( axial nerve )
- Swelling of the joint itself which becomes unbearable after exertion... not likely as such pain does respond to pain medicines given for sufficient course.
2.Any pressure on Brachial plexus of nerves situated in neck area - pressure on the concerned nerve fibers causing , stretching / pressing / pinching / damaging of the nerve fibers due to operation scar/ injury during surgery or cervical rib on right side.
* Detailed physical examination by an expert & Imaging investigations like CT scan/ MRI would help in finding specific cause
* Management -Cause specific medication / local steroid injection/ physiotherapy / surgery are the treatment options for such pain.
You need to consult an Orthopedic surgeon for this.
* self care- let him give rest to the part.
- Do not massage. Light application of muscle relaxant
ointment over the counter can be done. Hot compress will
help.
Thus with needful expert advise he can manage & get rid of pain. I hope that answers your query . Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
