Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Sternum Area

Also the pain radiate to the left side. It's more intense when she stands and goes away when sitting in bed.
We suspect it was the stomach so she took a pill of no-spa but it didn't help.
Can you please advice? thanks.
My answer as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
Her symptoms could be related to a musculo-skeletal pain.
I recommend taking ibuprofen coupled with acetaminophen. An antiacid or omeprazole to exclude possible gastritis. Nospa is an antispastic drug and it does not help for gastritis or musculo-skeletal pain. It helps only in case of irritable bowel syndrome.
If her symptoms do not improve with ibuprofen, omeprazole and acetaminophen, I recommend bringing her to the ER for a physical exam and some tests:
- a resting ECG
- a chest X ray study
- an abdominal ultrasound to exclude possible gall bladder stones or renal stones
- some other blood lab tests (complete blood count, liver and kidney function tests, amylase for pancreatitis, PCR and sedimentation rate for inflammation)
Hope to have been helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!
I recommend trying acetaminophen 500mg and ibuprofen 400 mg first.
If her symptoms do not improve in the next 40 minutes (or even worsen), then try omeprazole 20mg and then wait another half an hour.
If the situation does not improve, then go to the ER and perform the above mentioned tests.
Hope to have been helpful!
Best wishes,
Dr. Iliri
