Question: can anyone PLEASE tell me how to get relief??!!
A few days ago while drink a frozen fruit drink I had sudden pain behavior no my breast bone accompanied by a choking sensation. I had trouble swallowing for several minutes however it subsided after approximately 5-6 minutes. Last night It happened again BEFORE trying to eat. Except this time O am still having trouble swallowing even saliva. I get a painful choking sensation EVERY TIME I try to DRINK OR EAT anything. It happens each time about 4 seconds AFTER swallowing. I can't swallow anything that is thick like bread or meat as it gets stuck. I DO NOT HAVE A SORE THROAT.. NO FEVER just intermittent pain that is made worse by swallowing. Since yesterday this pain that won't go away.. I have health insurance but it requires a referral by a PCP. What can I do or what SHOULD I do for relief?

Edit***
I had a sudden pain sensation BEHIND my Breast bone approximately at level of the xyphoid process

Brief Answer:
Severe esophagitis with attendant problems.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
To recapitulate: Female/44 - retrosternal pain and choking sensation - approximately at level of xiphoid process - on frozen fruit drink - trouble swallowing for 5-6 minutes - recurrent - trouble with anything you swallow including saliva - bread and meat gets stuck - past history of hiatal hernia, diverticulitis - needs referral from PCP - wants to know what to do to have relief ....

My thoughts as per the history you have provided:
The problem looks like hiatal hernia with GERD and most importantly esophagitis.
I would advise you the following:
PPI like Omeprazole.
Antacid gel/liquid 3 tsf every three hourly.
Motility regulator like Domperidone at 8 hourly interval
Sleep in reclining position
Only liquids orally of the temperature as that of body or cold.
Avoid anything that is too hot or too cold.
Keep away from stress and/or anxiety.
Identify other factors that instigate or enhance the problems like scents, fumes or anything else that you must have notified by this time and avoid strictly.

Get a referral for a Gastroenterologist as you need Upper GI Endoscopy for proper diagnosis of the extent of the problems.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant questions if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
