Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jun 2016
Question: I have an extremely sore throat, where I can barely swallow. The sore throat prevents me from sleeping. As I start to doze off, my throat closes off, and I can't breath. I also am extremely congested and and antihistamine does not help. I also have extreme muscle pain in the lower back on thighs, but advil helps that greatly. I had a colonoscopy on Wednesday morning, which was clean, and I have no abdominal pain. I don't appear to have much of a fever. I noticed a slight cough before the colonoscopy, but thought it was seasonal allergies.

Detailed Answer:
Helloand welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description it appears to be a case of throat infection.

The throat needs to be examined for evidence of acute bacterial tonsillitis or pharyngitis. Also the airway should be determined to be patent.

If found then rapid strep test, throat swab and culture can be done and antibiotics started subsequently as empiric therapy. NSAIDs like ibuprofen and antihistamines along with saline gargles should continue.

wishing you best of health

Thanks

please consult your doctor before taking any further course of action
