Suggest Treatment For Severe Stomach Pain When Diagnosed With Gallbladder Stones

My father had a bad stomach ache yesterday. After an ultra sound scan it was found he has gall bladder stones of about 12.5 cm. his stomach ache is not there persistently and after a pain killer it is not there now at all. The doctor suggested to do a laproscopic surgery to remove the stones. my question is can the surgery be delayed for a month. or does it need to be done immediately. what will be the impact if the surgery is being delayed by a month. can he eat normally till the surgery happens.
Thanks
I am sorry I mentioned the size wrongly as 12.5cm.. its is actually 16.4mm.
Attached are the ultrasounds. and the medicines prescribed.
Thanks for your help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
If your father has normal CBD (common bile duct),no cholelithiasis,no pancreatitis and normal liver function test then it means, here he does not have any complications of gallstones.
Also,There is now general agreement that laproscopic cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal) should be the treatment of choice for symptomatic gallstones or if there is some complication develops due to stone.
Controversy, however, exists as to the management of symptomatic gallstones.
So,I will answer all your questions one by one.
1) Yes,surgery may be post-poned if his pain could be managed with OTC pain killers and if there is no complication as I said.
2) There is no need of any emergency surgery here sicne 16.4 mm stone is not so big sized. Usually Emergency gall bladder removal surgery is done only when there is some complication, arises due to stone.
3) No ill impact on the otherwise healthy individual if we delay the surgery especially if we can manage pain.
4) Yes,he may eat normally but avoid oil, spicy and fatty foods.Quit smoking and alcohol if he does.
And yes,go for liver function tests if not done earlier.
Hope this helps.
