Suggest Treatment For Severe Vomiting And Diarrhea

Question: When should I go to see the doctor with what I think is food poisoning? I had soy glazed Asian potstickers at a Mattiott at 1 pm yesterday. May have had shrimp in them...not sure. Started to feel extremely tired at 4 pm. By 5:30 I felt like I had a fever. Came home and collapsed on the bed from 7:30 pm to 5:30 am and then slept again until about 9 am this morning. I have had 4 or 5 bouts of vomiting (most recently at 11:30 pm tonight).... Felt quite nauseous all afternoon and evening today. Diarrhea today multiple times. Last night had a fever of 100.5...it was around 99.5 this morning and then back up to 100.4 this afternoon and about 99 now. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Acute Gastroenteritis

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
You seem to be suffering from Acute Gastro Enteritis (AGE) or Stomach infection (Food Poisoning).
This could also be an allergic reaction to Shrimp as well.
In such case, immediate medical attention should be sought as an allergic reaction can be so severe that it can cause breathlessness and swelling over the lips and face.
In extreme cases, there can be edema of your trachea and respiratory passage causing respiratory difficulties.
Your doctor may give you anti allergic's like Pheneramine and steroid shot like Dexamethasone that too injectable, following which antibiotics can be give if food poisoning too is suspected.
Moreover, there is no point in waiting to see your doctor as you have been vomiting and passing multiple loose stools. This needs treatment to avoid dehydration and further complications.
I usually prefer to give antibiotics in such cases of AGE, where there is a significant history of outside food consumption.
My choice of antibiotics in such case would be a Ofloxacin and Metronidazole.
I would also add a combination of Pantoprazole and Domeperidone in such cases to help with acidity and vomiting's.
Make sure you drink plenty of fluid and Oral re-hydration solution to prevent dehydration.
You may take Paracetamol for fever and body pain, that would go away once the infection gets under control.
I would highly recommend you to see your doctor now and share my opinion with him.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
