Suggest Treatment For Severe Water Retention In Legs And Ankles
Question: I have severe water retention/swelling of legs and ankles, presumably from taking prednisone to help control ulcerative colitis., I am also on hydrocodone/acetaminophen due to back pain from compression fracture of T-11. The swelling/water retention is getting worse and worse. How can I reduce it? Email address is YYYY@YYYY
Brief Answer:
several possibilities
Detailed Answer:
first you'd have to see why there is fluid retention.
Ok, it's salt/sodium retention with the prednisone; maybe made worse by gaining fat.
but you'd at least have to look at heart, lung, liver disease. Furthermore the colitis can really lower the amount of albumin in the blood. If the blood doesn't have stuff in it, it doesn't hold onto the water and it seeps out of the vessels.
Most likely, it is fluid retention. Salt restriction, fluid restriction. sweating. might help some. Mostly it's taking (incredibly cheap) diuretics to help it.
