Suggest Treatment For Severe White-coat Syndrome

Posted on Fri, 29 May 2015
Question: I am 71 and in good health. I should get annual checkups and found a MD who examined me about a year ago. He is no longer in CA. I have severe White Jacket syndrome. All blood work was within normal limits. Since the MD was aware of my fear he did not take my blood pressure. I monitor my blood pressure at home and when relaxed it usually is about mid 120's over low 70's with pulse in the 60's. What would you recommend? I forgot to mention I am man, 6'1' and weigh 170lbs. Brief Answer:
blood pressure and pulse are normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.

I understand your concern.
It is not very uncommon to have a white jacket or a white coat syndrome. You need not worry for that. If you have a good blood pressure monitor and a sphygmomanometer, you can get checked at home. Though i would prefer manual measurement by an expert, still home measurements with authentic instruments have satisfactory results.
Now coming to your vitals, blood pressure in 120s by 70s and pulse in 60s is within normal range. Your BMI or body mass is also normal. So don't be worried. Just eat healthy, do exercise regularly and get blood pressure measurements done at regular intervals.

Hope this was helpful.
