Brief Answer:
Mostly due to UTI secondary to enlarged prostate

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have pain in lower abdomen ,fever and chills .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem
1) Do you have ant obstructive voiding symptoms like increased frequency for urination ,urgency .nocturia etc suggestive of enlarged prostate which is very common at this age .

The symptoms that you have are mostly due to UTI which could be secondary to Enlarged prostate.

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA.

In the mean while start taking broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water. To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thank you. I indeed have increased frequency for urination. Since I've been ill I urinate about every hour and it appears to be a fairly full bladder. The urgency can not be overstated, to the point that I'm physically blocking flow. The stream flow is good by comparison to normal. Three weeks ago I was given a regimen of Cephalexin APO capsules because of a venomous spider bite. One side affect, a good one, was that I got up no more than once if at all to urinate during the night and my urine flow was increased.
I will contact my GP about a urologist visit. I have not had a colonoscopy but my PSA numbers are about average, although I'm not convinced PSA is a conclusive measure of prostate health. Thanks again.
