Suggest Treatment For Sharp Pain In The Abdomen
Question: I have had incredibly sharp and throbing pains in my gut area for a week and a half. Its to the point where I hwve had to use pain killers to sleep for an hr or two. The area, however, is not located on the stomach side. I asked my pain manager what was in the area I showed him and he said nothing but intestines and suggesed I get a mri or cat scan....sorry I always get those 2 confused. Anyway, the pain is both radiating with sharp stabs. The location starts where the ribs separate, heads due south, then all the way over to my left side. Just like a triangle. I have no pain on the right side. It hurts when I burb or hiccup, but not when I cough. I thought it might be an ulcer, so I have been drinking the usual gaviscon, kaeopectate, etc. But it doesn't help at all. What ever this is...if friggen hurts. My pain level is near a 7.5 and yes I know about the numbers. I have had many surgeries, heck even tendon sugery 2 weeks ago. At 1st I thought it was the cephalexin, but stopping didn't help. I am also on losartin, lasix, potassium, paxil, percocets, and morphine sulfate. And no I dont abuse them. Pls advise. Please
Oddly enough, I have a follow up with the hand surgeon and starting pt this friday. Their office is right next to a hospital with a great ER. If u advise so, I can go get this checked out further. Also I have been guilty of minor dehydation b4.....not to where it was a problem, but I wanted to throw that in the mix. I live at 8300 feet elevation, and humidity is in the low single digits for the most part. Lastly...the pain will actually radiate up to my mid back. Its not the same type of pain. The back seems to b more muscular. I have had back surgeries, but not in this region

Brief Answer:
ER visit is not a bad idea.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Such pain can be caused by several issues including pancreatitis, peptic ulcer, kidney stone or even heart attack.
As the pain is quite strong, visiting ER wont be a mistake. For sure abdominal ultrasound, blood work (with liver tests, amylase levels, bilirubin levels) and urine analysis is a good start. Depending of the results, gstroscopy can be the next step and abdominal CT (to see pancreas).
Strong pain means that you must seek for help and do not wait with it.
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
You can start with your gp.
Detailed Answer:
If you are able to deal with the pain, your blood pressure is fine, your heart rate is below 100 you can start with your regular gp.
Otherwise go to ER.

I have had PEs in the past. They found 8 in the left lung and am on an 02 machine part time or when i sleep. SoI cuffs and stuff. My my BP is 140 over 100, O2 level is at 77, and my HB is 100. But thats not too bad for me. I have worked around chemicals 4 the past 23 yrs. On a severe day, I can hit BP of 173 over 110, O2 level of 58, and HB at 112. Is it possible this was the result of eating cephalexin on an empty stomach for a few days and perhaps being a bit dehyrated? I urinate probably 4 times a day, and yes they tend to be a bit 8n the darker side of yellow.
Brief Answer:
Kidney issue can be the reason.
Detailed Answer:
Eating on empty stomach cephalexine is not the reason for sure. Yes, you may be dehydrated. Moreover as you urinate more often kidney issue can be the case.
It seems that you may see your regular doctor if it will be soon.
