default
Posted on Tue, 6 Dec 2016
Question: I need to get blood work done and have Thyroid medication subscribed. I do not have medical insurance and I am unemployed.

I have been off Synthroid 137 MCG since Feb 2016.

I now have sharp shooting pains, cold hands and feet. Index finger going numb. Excessive ear fluid drainage.

Is there a non prescription answer?

Brief Answer:
You should restart treatment for underactive thyroid.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for asking on HCM!
The symptoms you described may be due to under active thyroid.
Cold extremities is a typical symptom of hypothyroidism.
The numbness that you reported may be due to nerve compression (carpal tunnel syndrome) that is agravated by under active thyroid. It is associated with weight gain and fluid retention and as a result compression of the nerves.
The dose you used to take was high and you shouldn't interrupt it even though you couldn't check the hormonal level.
Now (i can understand that you don't have health insurance) but i would suggest you to check at least TSH level.
levothyroxine dose will depend on it.
Will be a pleasure to help you further.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

My doctor will not see me without the health insurance and that was when I lived in Slidell, LA. I moved to XXXXXXX because of a job and got fired in 4 weeks due to brain fog. Not able to complete very complicate excel worksheet.

Do you know who I can see in Farmers Branch XXXXXXX 75234?

As I stated, my doctor would not see me without health insurance. My prescription ran out. I could not find another doctor in Slidell.

My doctor would have the results of my blood work. Do I need a prescription to get blood work done? And if I got that blood work would you be able to give me a prescription? Not sure what you guys can offer.

Brief Answer:
Hello,

Detailed Answer:
I am sorry but you have to ask your GP surgery if a prescription is needed to check the TSH level. Probably you can get by phone this information.
It will be a pleasure to suggest you the dose of levothyroxine after the result but it is not possible to get prescriptions by HCM!
Wish you good health!
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
