Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Patients with herpes zoster (shingles) benefit from oral antiviral therapy, as evidenced by accelerated healing of lesions and resolution of zoster-associated pain with acyclovir or valacyclovir.
Acyclovir is administered at a dosage of 800 mg five times daily for 7–10 days. It is correct.
You can apply also acyclovir ointment locally (Acivir 5 %).
Valacyclovir (newer drug),the prodrug of acyclovir, accelerates healing and resolution of zoster associated pain more promptly than acyclovir. The dose is 1 g by mouth three times daily for 5–7 days.
Compared with acyclovir, valacyclovir offer the advantage of less frequent administration.
Since you have already started acyclovir orally, you need to continue it as prescribed by your doctor as it is equally effective .
You have not mentioned which part of the body is affected.

Shingles-treatment
Detailed Answer:
Secondary bacterial infection of the skin can be avoided by good hygiene including daily bathing. No specific soap is needed.
Additionally Aluminum acetate ( 0.5% ) lotion ,if available in local pharmacy, can be used as soak with piece of cotton or gauze over the shingles , as it can be both soothing and cleansing.

Wish you also happy shankranti.
You need to complete the course of anti-viral drug as it will prevent post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN).
There is no need to follow any specific diet but a veg-diet is advisable.
The responsible organism is Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) which causes either chickenpox or herpes zoster (shingles). The virus is contagious and can spread from one person to others. Hence you need to take leave to remain at home and to rest to prevent potential complications (particularly CNS involvement),though rare in immunocompetent individuals.
