Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Quinidine
Dear colleague
Detailed Answer:
Greetings, dear colleague. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I read your query.
As you are a doctor, I shall share my experience with quinidine. Not one of my patients have developed heavy sweats with quinidine, at least not as a side effect. Skin rashes (as for all medication used) and hot flushes (described as tingling in extremities or warmth) is all I got as a feedback side effects from my patients. The thing I fear the most when quinidine is used, is the proarrhythmic side effect it has. That is why it is largely abandoned nowadays. I am, of course, speculating, when I say that flushesh accompanied with heavy sweats can be attributed to this dangerous side effect. Therefore, I would recommend you to do an EKG, to at least compare the length of the QT segment with prior EKGs. It is only then, when we can discuss about switching to another drug to control your patient's rythm. You can also put him/her on a 24-hour Holter rhythm study, to determine if these episodes are at all elicited by a possible arrhythmia.
I hope I was helpful with my answer. I am here to help, if you have further questions. Please rate my answer, if you do not.
Respectfully,
Dr. Meriton
