Posted on Tue, 30 May 2017
Question: Hi,
I was on XXXXXXX for last 1 year and due to weight gain, recently shifted to venlafaxin XR 75 mg and took aorund 8 tablets, then I started having severe stomach upset and more anxiety. I went to my Doctor and he suggested me to go back to XXXXXXX 25 mg. I started XXXXXXX 12.5 from today. But I'm feeling like numbness, tingling in head, especially in the neck region from last 2 days.

Is this due to side effects of Venlafaxin? If yes, when it will go away? Doctor suggested me to take 0.25 Mg of Clonozopam to get a relief from this symptons till I get XXXXXXX adjusted again.
Will I get relieved from this symptons if I take .25 mg of Clonozopham? I'm really very disturbed with the symptoms I got as feeling something happened in my brain due to Venlafaxin side effects. If it is due to side effects, when it will go away and will it cause any damage to my brain. I'm not able to go to office from last 2 days.

Please advise.

Brief Answer:
It is most likely due to side effect and uncontrolled anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

I think venlafaxine failed to help you in anxiety after withdrawal of paroxetine(pari). This lead to recurrence of anxiety symptoms.Unfortunately anxiety symptoms were mixed with side effect of venlafaxine resulting in further complication and more difficulty in carrying day to day activities.

It can be said that rather than anything else the combination of anxiety and side effect of venlafaxine is responsible for your current symptoms.

Since clonazepam is anti anxiety medications which acts immediately I feel temporary use is recommended and you can proceed as per guidance of your doctor.

There is good possibility that at least partial relief will be observed on use of clonazepam.

Whatever might be cause I like to assure you that it does not cause any permanent effect on your brain and there is good possibility that you will be feeling fine in few days once Par starts showing its effect.

I hope this answers you.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Thanks Doctor. So, all the numbness, tingling in the head and stomach upset will go away once XXXXXXX starts working?

Will Clonozopham cause any more side effect on brain or will get me relief from these symptoms till thentime XXXXXXX starts working. I have been advised to take for 10 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.

As you know XXXXXXX helps in anxiety and once it start acting the symptoms must go away. It is rightly possible that you will be symptoms free again.

Yes there are side effects with clonazepam but they are almost negligible at the prescribed dose and none of them permanent.
It acts fast on anxiety and useful for short term.

I hope this helps you further.
Thanks and regards.
